Am I jumping the gun in saying we should focus on the future?

Okay, so I'm gonna lay out my thoughts here about our current title contention odds. So I think we are in a position currently where we can easily say we are a tier 2 team below the likes of Golden State and Cleveland(Could also throw in San Antonio and if you believe in Houston to compete on that level with their current record but I don't see it personally). If we deleted those two teams(CLE and GS) from the league we would be in a great position to get a chance to win a championship.

But, those two teams DO exist. There is an obvious gap between us and those 2 teams, in fact there is really a gap between those two teams and the rest of the league if we are being honest. If we somehow get Cousins and he doesn't hinder us with his toxicity AND we get someone like Jimmy Butler and are able to keep IT, Horford, and somehow still have a solid bench then I would put us in a position to upset one of those teams. We are in an era right now where the two teams at the top aren't average top tier teams, I mean between them they have 7 perennial all stars and AT LEAST 3 hall of famers. This isn't normal and I don't think you can just buy into title contention unless we pull off multiple robbery trades for stars which doesn't seem to be something that we can pull off at this point.

My point is, I think our best option is to build for the end of this rivalry, we should want to be at our peak to take over from Cleveland in 3-5 years and I don't want to "buy in" right now to try and steal a championship if we have a chance to have longevity and a dynasty like Golden State has right now. We have Jaylen Brown and we will have a top pick in the upcoming draft and possibly the one after that. So my idea is that we get a young core that can develop together and hopefully draft that franchise changing talent for the future rather than giving it away and hoping we can upset both Cleveland AND Golden State at the same time in a small window with aging stars.

Like I said if the trading process right now was able to get us boogie and another star somehow then I would be more optimistic but I mean trading away top picks to get someone like Gordon Hayward just isn't my cup of tea.

TL:DR save the picks and build up the talent and let the Power Struggle between the Warriors and the Cavs and then attack when Both teams are beatable and run the league for years to come with HOF Jaylen Brown and Markelle "The GOAT" Fultz

Thoughts?
