tons of celtics trade rumors have been circulating, and most have named a fairly similar list of a few specific names. it's not a bad thing, but often times teams make trades involving names no rumors had reported. I'm not saying these trade ideas would happen, but just that there are a few unorthodox trade ideas for the celtics this offseason, so here are a few random trade ideas that most likely won't happen, but would probably make sense.
KYLE KORVER - tons of trade rumors surrounded the hawks at the trade deadline, giving the impression that they may be trying to change things up. kyle korver will be turning 36, but he would give the celtics a much-needed proven sharpshooter (.492 3P% 2014-15, .399 2016) with guard and forward capability (6'7). this trade would also benefit the younger players on the team by being able to have an experienced veteran presence on the roster, something that the team has not had as of late. ideally, korver would come off the bench, and be a solid role player who could fit into brad's system with a jerebko-like role. it probably wouldn't take a great amount of assets to get him either, and his contract is favorable.
TRISTAN THOMPSON - he's quietly averaging close to a double double (8.0ppg 9.2rpg 2016). who knows if the cavs would consider giving him up, but there have been rumors about unhappiness in cleveland, and the team may make a few changes before next season. thompson's a very capable body under the rim, and would have a starting role not unlike amir's, and he would likely be used like him as well. thompson would give the celtics unique size under the basket from a young player with an unknown ceiling. it all depends on how one feel's about resigning sully. it would probably take a lot on the celtic's end asset-wise to trade for thompson however, or maybe to get cleveland to even consider.
DANILO GALLINARI - his name has been tossed around for a while in trade rumors, often associatied with the celtics. gallinari is a talented forward with above average scoring ability (19.5ppg 2016). that's a reliable offensive presence, and his numbers have steadily been increasing. the celtics don't have any exceptionally talented scoring-forwards, so giving brad a shooter stretch four on the roster helps spread the offense. his injury-proneness is a bit of a red flag, but that might just be what could convince denver to deal him. the nuggets have dealt with his injuries for a while, and with their slough of first rounders, they might look to deal some players. trading for gallinari would take significant compensation however, as denver has reportedly stated.
GREG MONROE - monroe signed a huge contract with the bucks during last years FA, but many rumors claim he has been shopped by milwaukee fairly recently.he's a talented post scorer with exceptional rebounding ability as well (15.4ppg 8.9rpg 2016), but he is inconsistent offensively when it comes to putting up big numbers. he may be able to excel better in a quick-paced high tempo system. the celtics have lacked a consistent starter at the forward position who can score in the paint and in the post, which are two key abilities monroe has to offer. presumably, it would take an impressive offer in order to snag a player like monroe from the bucks, but a disappointing season may cause them to rethink their roster.
KYLE ANDERSEN - another very random trade idea, but anderson would be a very solid bench player with resting future potential. he is young and has shown flashes of potential on both sides of the ball throughout his young career, and he has skills that would compliment the celtic's play nicely, such as his length (7'2" wingspan) which helps for steals and blocks. at 22 he's certainly still raw talent, but could be ready to break out soon. the real issue would be convincing the spurs to give him up. they may lose a few players this offseason so who knows, maybe boston can entice them with some picks or talented bench players. anderson shouldn't require way too much in return, but it'd still have to be a valuable asset that the celtics would lose.
RUDY GOBERT - I just had to throw in a pipe dream at the end like gobert, but no trade is necessarily impossible. while his offense is still lacking, gobert maintains averages close to a double double a night. his defensive ability is fantastic (2.2bpg 0.8spg 2016), and he's a daunting presence in the paint. his rim-protecting ability is stellar, and he's a quality 7 foot starter. the celtics have had trouble finding a legitimate rim-protecting 7 footer to start at center, and gobert would fit in seamlessly. His defensive tenacity would assimilate well with brad's "defense first" mentality. potentially, the jazz could opt to throw money at a center on the market and develop more of their young talent, putting gobert on the block. again, potentially.
no hate please guys, I'd just love to get your opinions on this list and other undiscussed players you think could be options for celtics to trade for
