Okay this is a long read, but I decided to have a little fun and create sort of a script of how I'd pitch playing in Boston if I were the Celtics. I've never written anything like this so sorry if it seems like a jumbled up mess. Let me know what you think, I'm just curious to know what people think of my sale to KD of the Celtics. Is this the approach DA and the Celtics should take? Let me know.
(Kevin Durant along with his agent walk into Danny Ainges office.) Assistant knocks on door Mr. Ainge, Mr. Kevin Durant is here to see you D.A: Sure sure! Come on in Kevin! How are you doing today Kevin I'm so glad that you have given us the chance to sit down and have a talk about you possibly joining the Celtic! KD: I'm doing really well man, how are you doing? DA: Well if you decide to sign with the Celtics I'll be doing fantastic! ... Why don't you take a walk with me Kevin I'll introduce you to some of the other guys.
(Danny and Kevin along with his agent walk towards the Garden Parquet floor, they are joined by Wyc, and Coach Brad Stevens.)
DA: Kevin I'd like you to meet Wyc Grousbeck, the CEO and Co-Owner of the Celtics, and I'm sure of course you know who this is, this is coach Brad Stevens. KD: Yes we've met briefly before how are you doing coach, how are you doing Mr. Grousbeck? CBS: I'm doing really well Kevin, thank you. Wyc: It's an honour to meet you Kevin, I've been a big fan of yours ever since your days playing in Texas! KD: Haha Thank you Sir. DA: Okay gentlemen lets take a little walk okay.
(Danny, Wyc, Coach Brad Stevens, Kevin, and his agent Walk to the center of Parquet Floor.)
DA: Okay Kevin, what do you value most in a Franchise that you're looking to sign with? KD: Well winning of course, that's my whole goal as a Basketball player... I want to win. DA: Look up Kevin... What do you see when you look up? KD: I see a lot of banners... DA: What else? KD: A lot of retired jersey numbers. DA: Could you imagine having your name put up there along with all the other great players that have played in this organization? Bird, Russell, McHale, Havlicheck, Parish, possibly someday, Pierce, Garnett, could you imagine what it would be like to have your name up there with so many legendary players and that's not even all of them? KD: It would definitely be a very special feeling. DA: Not only that, but could you imagine being responsible for adding other numerous championship banners up into these raptors? Kevin, this is the most winning franchise in the NBA, winning is in our past, and we are going to do everything in our power to make sure that winning is in our future. Just this year alone we were able to make the Eastern Conference finals, we fell short but we gave the Cavaliers one hell of a fight! We feel like you're the player we need to put us over the top! Isn't that right coach? CBS: Yes Kevin, the Celtics as a team,... as a unit were ranked 4th defensively in the NBA, we were also top 10 in scoring, we feel with a player of a certain talent such as yourself with the natural scoring capabilities that you possess that we can be among the NBA's elite, not only defensively, but offensively as well. You, along with Isaiah and Avery Bradley, and Jae Crowder give us the fire power that we need in order to win ball games. DA: Kevin, this is a young team that is filled with depth, we're only going to get better as these players continue to develop. Have you ever heard the saying "Green Runs Deep?" KD: I believe so. DA: Well not only does Green Run Deep Kevin, but so isn't winning. Winning is in this cities blood, it's in our fans blood. They expect nothing less from us than to compete night in and night out and do everything in our power to hang another banner in this building. But let me tell you something, these are the most loyal fans you're ever gonna find in any city in the NBA. Thru the good times, and the bad these fans are going to come and they're going to support this team. This city bleeds green, and they're fueled with a passion for winning. That's all this organization cares about, hanging raptors from the ceiling, and Kevin let me tell you something Mr. Grousbeck, Coach Stevens, along with myself will do everything in our power to make sure that this is a winning team. Wyc: That's right Kevin, I'm willing to pay you anything it takes to make sure that come October you're wearing Celtics green on your back. DA: Let me tell you Kevin, as you probably know I was a player, I've played here, 8 years in fact. However I've played other places as well, I've played in Phoenix, I've played in Sacramento, I've played in Portland but let me tell you something, there is no where better than this city. I've been lucky enough to win 3 NBA championships here, two as a player, and one as General Manager, and let me tell you something there is no place I would rather of played or won. Winning here is special, it means something to these fans. Thru thick, and thin these fans have your back. This organization prides itself on it's winning history, and we want you to be apart of that, Kevin we want you to be apart of not only the most winning Franchise in the NBA, but the most winning City in the entire Country. I'm really putting an emphasis on winning, but to this organization that's all that matters. You don't have to take it just from us, maybe you'd love to hear what some of these guys have to say "HEY GUYS!"
(Out comes Isaiah Thomas, Paul Pierce, and Bill Russell)
PP: Hey KD, My Man! How you doing! IT: Hey Kev man! Sorry about what happened to OKC in the playoffs! BR: Kevin, how are you son, it's great to get to speak with you again. KD: It's a great honor Mr. Russell. Hey Paul, Hey IT nice to see you again! Paul sorry we had to knock your team out of the playoffs! PP: Hey man, it's all good! I'm back where I belong now. DA: Isaiah why don't you tell Kevin what it's like ever since we traded for you. IT: Man let me tell you something KD! Ever since I came here it's been nothing but MAD LOVE! The day I was traded here was the 2nd greatest day of my life! KD: Haha! What's #1? IT: The day my kids were born! Oh and also the day I was married, I guess that ones a tie haha! But man let me tell you something, I feel like we got something special going on here man, and I feel like you would be the icing on the cake! I know how close you and Westbrook are man but look KD I want to win, and I think you and I would be the perfect duo! Plus I think you would absolutely LOVE Boston man! This city thrives off our energy and I'm loving every second of it, and I think you would too! PP: Hey man look Kev, when Ray and KG joined me and we won that Championship here back in 08 it was like heaven man, there is NO BETTER experience. I put my blood sweat and tears into this floor man, and the fans they knew it and they were there with me 100% every step of the way. Plus Danny is the most hard working man I know, and with all the great things I've heard about Brad, and seen when playing against them.... IT: MAN COACH IS THE BEST! He's brilliant man, he draws up some of the best plays I've ever seen! CBS: Thank you Isiah I appreciate it. PP: See man, there are some special things happening here, and this is a special place and I think you'd fit in perfectly here and I think you'd love it. I played in the West this past year, and I don't have to tell you anything you don't already know, but man it is a grind to try and win in the West bro. I mean GS just won back to back Championships, I don't see them going anywhere, the Spurs everytime someone counts them out they just seem to prove them wrong, then you got CP3 and Blake in LA along with Doc, I don't see them going anywhere anytime soon... Man in the East it's wide open... and you come here you're immediately a title contender and you just gotta beat the Cavs! And this team already fought them hard in the finals, I think they have what it takes to beat them, and you along with this young talented team have what it takes to do it. You could build your own legacy here man, there is no better place to do it! BR: He's right Kevin... If Red were here he'd agree, playing for this city, this organization is the best thing that could ever happen to you. There is no other place I would of preferred to win. I think you come here you would definitely agree. You're one of my favorite players to watch Kevin, I've told you this before... KD: Thank you Mr. Russell BR: Well, it's true.... Maybe...just maybe someday you'll have as many rings as me ... only if you play here of course hahaha KD: Thank you Mr Russell, Paul, Isaiah, Mr. Grousbeck, and Coach Stevens, you all have definitely opened up my eyes when it comes to playing in Boston, I've always had great respect for this organization, and it's history and I'm definitely interested in possibly playing here ...if you could just present your offer to my agent, and allow me a couple of days to weigh my options I'll definitely let you gentlemen know and keep you in the loop. I will tell you that Boston is definitely one of my top choices.
