It seems to be generally accepted that Boston is in need of either a go-to scorer or a rim protector, or both. There has also been a lot of speculation about potential trade targets (Boogie, Melo, etc.) that Danny should chase after. But I'm not so sure I agree.
Am I the only one who doesn't want us to trade for a star player? Sure, this current roster might not beat Cleveland. But we have some youth and room for growth on our team. We also have great potential draft picks to acquire even more young talent (I'm looking at you, Ben Simmons). Who knows what type of player Smart, Crowder, Hunter, Young, Mickey, or potentially Simmons, could be after 3-5 years of being a competitor in the East?
It seems to me that Danny has pulled off the perfect rebuild. We have a great coach and are a conference competitor already. But why do so many people want to rush things? Even if we can't beat Cleveland this year, I personally would like to see us maintain the same core and hold on the best draft picks. I think we have a great core, coach, and chemistry.
In an ideal world, that type of development could lead to a dynasty down the road akin to San Antonio after they acquired Duncan. That might be an unrealistic pipe dream. But to me, building a foundational core to last for several years is a safer route to longterm success than trading away potential draft picks for a quick fix.
Thoughts? Does anybody else feel similar?
