The man may not be the tough inside presence we desperately need, and he is often maligned for his lack of toughness, but Kelly provides so much to this team.
His shooting ability creates space for our drivers, he is a solid passer and has fantastic hair.
The most overlooked part of his game, is the most important though. In Australian Football we call it "Gut Running", which is basically to keep on running even if it looks pointless or fatigue has kicked in. Kelly is always sprinting up and down the court to fill space on defense or provide an option on offense, the amount of baskets he would have stopped just by filling a space on defense would be the difference in winning and losing a few games. Even when he doesnt get the ball on the break, his presence causes the defense to second guess and allows guys like IT, Terry and Jaylen to score on the break. I don't have any stats to back this up but I feel like its an observation that proves Kelly's worth to the team, he and Marcus are great with the intangibles and offer so much more than what their stats would suggest.
Has anyone else noticed this about Kelly?
